Orianthi has developed a strong reputation for herself over the years. Her resume is highlighted by tenures with Steve Vai, Carrie Underwood, Carlos Santana, Alice Cooper and Michael Jackson, and yet it’s her catalog as a solo artist that has attracted her largest audience.

The Australian guitarist currently has four albums of blues and rock under her belt as a solo artist, and Orianthi’s performance in Agoura Hills, California showed her stepping back into the main focus.

The dinner theater setting of The Canyon Club may not be the ideal setting for a rock concert, however the venue has done an admirable job at attracting some sizable names. Despite the environment, rock fans still packed into the room to pay witness to a 90 minute and 18 song set. Opening with “Heaven In This Hell” and promptly following with “What’s It Gonna Be,” Orianthi and company engaged their audience and rarely let them go over the course of the evening.

Keeping her signature hat pulled over her eyes, Orianthi nailed the complicated arrangements to songs like “Sex E Bizzare” and a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Give Me Shelter.” The latter of those two numbers included Brooklyn Allman, daughter of Greg Allman from the Allman Brothers, on lead vocals, as well as guitar from Trev Lukather and none other than Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi prominence.

This proved to be a stellar collaboration, however there was no keeping the crowd from watching Sambora hit the stage for a few more songs. Richie would return for encores which included “According to You,” “Stop Dragging My Ass Around,” “Pride and Joy” and “Voodoo Chile.” Although some anticipated the inclusion of a Bon Jovi anthem into the set, this was still Orianthi’s show and that allowed for fans to see another side to both prolific musicians.

One could only hope that this Southern California performance was the beginning of future collaborations between Orianthi and Richie Sambora, considering the two have been working on new material together. At the very least it was an entertaining and rewarding show that did not disappoint anyone in attendance.
