Slipknot have been one of the year’s most active heavy metal touring groups, having embarked on multiple extensive jaunts across North America alongside such names as Motionless in White, Hatebreed, Bullet for My Valentine and Lamb of God. Despite the demanding road schedule, lead vocalist Corey Taylor has still managed to find the time to work on studio material.

Taylor has been working heavily with his other full-time project, the hard rock group Stone Sour on a series of EPs featuring their takes on songs that influenced their decision to head into music. The premiere effort ‘Meanwhile in Burbank…’ arrived earlier this year and included memorable takes on tracks by a diverse selection of groups, such as KISS, Metallica, Alice in Chains and Judas Priest.

As we previously reported, Taylor and the members of Slipknot have been planning to take some time away from touring to focus on other projects before reconvening, potentially to record their first concept album. That time won’t be spent staying idle for Taylor; the vocalist recently revealed that even outside of wrapping up the next few Stone Sour EPs, he has been demoing some new music of his own.

Speaking with, Taylor was asked about his plans for the immediate future. “Slipknot is doing Mexico City on December 5th, but that’s really it,” said Taylor. “Then, basically, we’ve got the rest of the year off. We’ve got sorely needed time off coming, and I am ready. I’m pretty beat up. We’ve been touring pretty hardcore for the last six months, and it’s kind of starting to kick all of our asses.

“But the cool thing is that by the time we get to Mexico City, we’ll have been on the road for a year already with this album [2014’s ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’]. We’re gonna do some stuff next year. But for the most part it’s been incredibly successful.”

He continued: “On the music side, I’m just kind of demoing some stuff right now. I’m not sure what it’s gonna be for. Whether it’s some solo stuff or whatever. But that’s really it — finishing up the Stone Sour EPs that we’re working on. So really nothing new at the moment. But you never know, I’m getting requests for guest appearances all the time. So I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before I appear on somebody else’s album again.”
