“Rock is finally dead,” is what Gene Simmons had to say during an interview earlier this month with his son Nick for Esquire, however that is an opinion that very few rock and metal listeners (as well as the artists themselves) agree with. Judas Priest’s Rob Halford is one of these same musicians who stand on the opposing side of the argument, and recently took the opportunity to provide his opinion on the current status of the genre.

Gene Simmons hasn’t been one to refrain from (controversially, might we add) offering his opinion on a seemingly wayward variety of topics, ranging from encouraging those who are battling depression or suicidal ideations to “kill yourself” to offering his support to Donald Sterling in his fight over the Los Angeles Clippers, saying that Sterling shouldn’t be penalized for comments made in private. Now, the KISS mainman is proclaiming that the genre which he has forged a career is “finally dead.”

The two remaining original members of rock icons KISS, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are the two musicians which continue to showcase the identity of the band. While the latest additions of Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer, who took over the personas crafted by Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, have not been without their share of controversy, the fact that half of the original lineup continues on has kept a degree of authenticity to KISS.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been the subject of continuous criticism from both listeners and musicians alike for years, based upon their questionable inductions of such hip-hop and pop artists as Madonna and Run-D.M.C. into the organization before such definitive rock groups as Boston, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Humble Pie and Yes, while the majority of those named having yet to be inducted.

Founding Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has launched another attack against former members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss in what has become an ongoing war-of-words between both current and former members of the iconic rock group. After becoming subject to strong controversy following Kiss’ decision not to perform at their upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Simmons has now declared that Criss and Frehley “no longer deserve to wear the paint.”
