After 44 years and 20 studio albums, the Canadian progressive rock trio returned to the music world this year with their new album, ‘Clockwork Angels’, which has proven to be one of this year’s strongest releases. The new album shows the members of Rush at the top of their game, with even more expansive guitar playing becoming one of the highlights of the album, along with a noticeably heavier sound.

This power duo of classic rock shifts into overdrive as they fire through an arsenal of well-known hits, such as “Let It Ride” and “Roll On Down The Highway”; as well as masterfully inserting a few of their newer tracks. Randy Bachman and Fred Turner give a fantastic performance throughout their 20 song set, with each of the musicians taking turns on lead vocal duty after each couple of the band’s classics.

For many years, longtime fans of Triumph have been willing to “Lay It On the Line” for a chance to have the full original lineup come back together after their 20 year long hiatus, and bring their signature “Magic Power” back to the stage. All puns aside, this wish was finally granted when on June 7th, 2008, Triumph made their powerful comeback at the Sweden Rock Festival in front of thousands of fans.

‘Speak of the Devil’, one of Eagle Rock Productions’ most recent releases, gives a powerful look inside the dark magic that goes along with one of the Prince of Darkness’ captivating live performances. Recorded back in June 12, 1982, this historic concert has been terrifically remastered to help enhance the concert going experience. In true rock and roll fashion, the show begins with a massive laser light bat flying over the crowd.

Stalingrad shows Accept picking up immediately where they left off with ‘Blood of the Nations’. Those heavy guitar flourishes and high pitched primal screams that both make Accept’s music instantly recognizable take turns showing off throughout ‘Stalingrad’, while military-esque backup vocals attribute to the sinister sound you’ll find drenched throughout the entire album.

Overall, I believe that ‘XXX’ is another standout album by Asia, which not only shows the band maintaining their classic 80’s progressive rock sound, but after 30 years starting to musically advance and evolve into a greater band altogether. I can easily say that there is more than enough material to make this album a great fit to your musical collection, and at the very least deserves a listen to.
