Metallica‘s return to their thrash metal roots has undoubtedly been one of the best things to happen to the metal genre this year, after the widespread acclaim that followed last November’s triumphant comeback record ‘Hardwired… to Self-Destruct.’ Metallica are currently out on a massive arena tour of North America with support from Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat, while receiving heavy rotation on the active rock airwaves for their latest singles “Moth Into Flame,” “Atlas, Rise!” and “Hardwired.”
The members of Metallica appeared on many television screens Tuesday night (May 16) as metal fans tuned into ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ for a rowdy performance of “Now That We’re Dead,” another staple selection from the new Metallica record propelled by heavy percussion and a fist pounding, melodic refrain.
James Hetfield, pictured above rocking a Motorhead shirt, turns to the crowd and yells out, “If you want to live forever, then first you must die!” The blue Metallica logo from the ‘Ride the Lightning’ can be spotted near guitarist Kirk Hammett‘s floor monitors occasionally throughout the course of the five minute rendition of “Now That We’re Dead,” which can be viewed below.
The Metallica ‘WorldWired’ tour continues through North America until mid-August, after which the European leg is scheduled to launch in Amsterdam on September 4.
