Four dates into their latest tour, Alice in Chains rocked to a sold out Knitting Factory in Boise. Their first ever show in Boise did not disappoint and the fans in the capacity-filled venue ensured the band of their appreciation.

The fans were as loud as any show at the “Knit” in recent memory and opening the show with “Bleed The Freak” from their 1990 debut album ‘Faceliftcontributed to the mass hysteria.

For a few, the ghost of Layne Staley hangs over the band, but for most, William DuVall has been enthusiastically embraced as Alice in Chains lead singer, and rightfully so as DuVall has been with the band for 10 years and has cemented his place as a member of this band originally founded in 1987.

With their next studio album not due until later this year, the 19 song set only included 4 tracks from DuVall era studio albums including 2013’s critically acclaimed ‘The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here’ & 2009’s ‘Black Gives Way to Blue’  which meant the majority of the show, to the fans delight, relied on Staley era tracks.

Naturally, this decision made adequate room for such fan favorites as “Man in a Box,” “Down in a Hole,’ “Got Me Wrong” and “Would.”  The band also included a few deep tracks into the setlist including “Nutshell” from ‘Jar of Flies’ and the heavy hitting “It Ain’t Like That” from ‘Facelift.’

With no opening act and no encore on this tour the fans, young & old, were treated to an amazing performance but for two school-aged fans, their night was one to remember as Jerry Cantrell invited them to watch the final song of the night from the side of the stage!

After the final song was played and the band left the stage, the packed house continued to show their appreciation to the band by defying the house lights and continuing to clap, shout, and chant in hopes of luring the band back on stage.

The stage crew didn’t appear to break down gear which increased the fans’ frenzy with the hope that Jerry, William, Mike, and Sean would return. Alas, they didn’t and the fans with languid pace started to file out of the venue with smiles spread from ear to ear from what was surely a show to remember.
